Description:     From about 4500 to 4000 years ago, a group of Red Paint people (named for the red ocher found in their graves) lived on the northeast coast of the United States, in Maine. Called the people of the Moorehead Phase, they hunted swordfish, buried their dead with valuable imported grave goods and elaborate ritual, and were masters in woodworking and watercraft.
